Science has revealed a new secret to lowering blood cholesterol
To keep the level of cholesterol in the blood under control, especially from a certain age, it is necessary to undergo frequent specialist visits, avoiding risky do-it-yourself treatments. And it is precisely from the world of science that the secret to fight a problem that afflicts many people in Italy comes from: hypercholesterolemia.
The Veronesi Foundation stresses the importance of controlling cholesterol to reduce the risk of cardiovascular accidents. In fact, the Foundation indicates that the obstruction of the arteries due to the high concentration of cholesterol in the blood is one of the main ones causes of heart attacks and strokes.
The causes of high cholesterol can be genetic, linked to one’s lifestyle or they could come from certain dietary deficiencies. According to what the Veronesi Foundation says, therefore, the real secret to controlling cholesterol it is given by the combination of diet, physical activity and above all, in case of genetic problems, also some drugs.
The secret to lowering blood cholesterol
I most effective drugs are statins, which have been used for more than 20 years to reduce cholesterol by the liver. However, some patients cannot take them due to intolerance or simply because they have no effect on their body.
If it is not possible to use statins, especially for the cases of genetic hypercholesterolemia a new drug can be used, obviously under medical prescription. This drug manages to stop the receptors being carried by the PCSK9 protein which, if deactivated, would block the receptors responsible for increasing blood cholesterol.
