Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Dhaka Syed Ahmed Maruf has requested Foreign Affairs Adviser M Tauhid Hossain to facilitate visas for Pakistani citizens in Bangladesh.

On Tuesday (September 10), Syed Ahmed Maruf paid a courtesy call on Advisor M Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Regarding the meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the High Commissioner congratulated him on being appointed as an advisor on foreign affairs. He referred to the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s congratulatory message to the Chief Adviser and reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to work with the Interim Government of Bangladesh in the interest of the people of both countries.

The High Commissioner hoped that the Prime Minister and the Chief Advisor of Pakistan would meet on the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly session in New York.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner emphasized on strengthening the relationship between the two countries. He stressed the need to resume existing bilateral mechanisms such as Foreign Secretary-level consultations and the Joint Economic Commission. To further promote trade and economic relations between the two countries and enhance people-to-people contacts, the High Commissioner requested visa facilitation for Pakistani nationals in Bangladesh.

He also stressed the need for immediate resumption of direct flights between Bangladesh and Pakistan through Bangladeshi or Pakistani airlines.

Referring to his meeting with the Chief Adviser, High Commissioner Maruf assured the Government of Pakistan’s full support in any initiative to revive SAARC and hoped that Bangladesh and Pakistan would continue to work closely in other multilateral forums.

The Foreign Adviser highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and assured the necessary cooperation to further the relationship. He also emphasized the importance of revitalizing SAARC to foster stronger regional cooperation for the benefit of the people of the region.
