High Court bans closure of quarries Dinamalar

Madurai: The Madurai branch of the High Court has imposed an interim stay on the closure of quarries in Tirunelveli district.

A transport permit should be issued to transport black stones, gravel and M–Sand to the crusher. Some filed a petition in the High Court seeking an order to the Tirunelveli Collector, Assistant Director of Mineral Resources not to interfere in the transportation of products ground in the crusher for sale outside. Justice GR Swaminathan inquired. Time was sought to file a reply in the Government.Judge: The petitioner is running a crusher unit.

The government administration has verbally ordered the closure of all quarries and crusher units in Tirunelveli district due to a tragic incident in which human lives were lost in a particular quarry. Quarrying is a fundamental right. It can only be interfered with by law. The petitioner claims that the verbal order was issued without any basis. The situation in this case is dire. An interim ban is imposed on this. The hearing is adjourned to August 2, he said.
