High Floods Hit Ketapang, West Kalimantan, Residents of Five Isolated Hamlets

FLOOD as a result of the rains hit again Regency of Ketapang, West Kalimantan. In addition to submerging dozens of houses, the floods caused a number of public facilities such as school buildings and houses of worship to be inundated with water as high as 60 cm to 1.5 meters. Even the access road connecting the village was reportedly cut off. As a result, hundreds of people in five hamlets were isolated.

One of the floods hit Sungai Kelik Village, Pawan District, Ketapang Regency, until Sunday (27/3/2023). Not only did dozens of houses submerge, floods with a height of 60 cm to 1.5 meters submerged a number of school buildings, houses of worship, and village access roads.

The five hamlets are Tanjung Perak, Sepahan, Muara Kayong, Tanah Merah and Kelik Tue. More than 3,000 people in the five hamlets were reported to have been isolated eight days ago.

Residents whose homes were hit by the floods were forced to flee to the homes of their families and relatives. Other affected residents chose to survive in the midst of a flood siege.

A number of residents who were victims of the floods admitted that they began to be attacked by various diseases such as coughs, colds, diarrhea, and itching of the skin. Even though the flood has entered its eighth day, residents admit that they have not received any assistance from the local government. (Z-2)
