At the meeting of the Diamond League in Paris, the 22-year-old Ukrainian jumped 2.10 meters, breaking the record set by the Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova from August 30, 1987 in the Olympic Stadium in Rome. At that time he jumped 2.09 meters high.
Three and a half weeks before the start of the Olympic Games, Mahutschich is the favorite to win a gold medal. It was clear that the newly crowned European champion reigned supreme in Paris ahead of Australia’s Nicole Olyslagers, who came second and cleared 2.01 metres. Mahutschich’s previous best was 2.06 metres.
The Ukrainian native won gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year with a performance of 2.01 metres. After the war in Ukraine started in February 2022, she fled to Belgrade in the car with her trainer. At the World Indoor Championships there too the 22-year-old was named the winner. Since fleeing Ukraine, she has been training abroad and says she dedicates her victory to the Ukrainian armed forces.
