There is an increasing alarm for Covid-19 infections in the Baltic countries Today the maximum record of positive cases was recorded in Latvia (3,206) and Estonia (2,205), while infections are also growing in Lithuania. Restrictive measures have been launched, but the problem is above all the low vaccination rate.

According to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the 3 countries have the highest infection rate in the European Union. Over the last 14 days, the incidence per 100,000 inhabitants was 1,737 cases in Latvia, 1,408 in Estonia and 1,365 in Lithuania.

To contain the pandemic, a lockdown with night curfew is in place in Latvia until November 15. For 2 days in Estonia it is mandatory to wear a mask and show the Green pass to access some services and public spaces. The problem remains above all the low number of vaccinations: in Estonia and Latvia about half of the population is immunized, while in Lithuania the coverage reaches 60%. The 3 governments are accused of the poor results of the vaccination campaign and there have been repeated requests for the resignation of the ministers of health. Meanwhile, hospitals are close to collapse due to the number of Covid patients. Latvia has already requested assistance from other countries.
