Berlin – It was one of the most important promises made by SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz in the election campaign. He wanted to be “measured” by this. In addition to affordable housing and stable pensions, the issue was a minimum wage of twelve euros. Scholz has prevailed: When the 22 working groups of the SPD, Greens and FDP meet for the first time on Wednesday, the minimum wage will no longer be a sticking point. For this, the SPD and the Greens had to make concessions to the Liberals, who do not think much of state-set wages – and for their part give up the tax on the rich. However, the details still have to be balanced. But the twelve euro minimum wage should be implemented very quickly within a year, according to the SPD. Above all, women would also benefit. Economists warn against the consequences.
