Highest sum since World War II: Germans donate 812 million euros for Ukraine

by time news

– According to a survey, people in Germany have donated at least 812 million euros since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine at the end of February. This was announced by the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) on Tuesday in Berlin.

The amount of donations for the people affected by the war in and from the Ukraine should therefore be even higher, since many smaller initiatives had also collected money that were not taken into account in the surrender.

According to the institute, the interim result is the highest nominal amount of donations that have been collected for a single catastrophe since the end of the Second World War. For those affected by the tsunami in Southeast Asia (2004), 670 million euros were collected at the time. If you take the money development into account, that would be 904 million euros at today’s price development, as calculated by the DZI. Russia launched war against neighboring Ukraine on February 24.

“In our opinion, the willingness to donate and support Ukraine is still high. However, the volume of money and things donated every day has decreased,” said Managing Director Burkhard Wilke according to the announcement. However, the hunger crisis in Sudan and other African countries makes it clear “that this part of the world is also in urgent need of help from the international community.”
