After a two-year Corona break, many are enjoying the live atmosphere again. Even occasional rain doesn’t change that.

Großpösna (dpa/sn) – Thousands of tents, resounding basses and a lot of good humor: After a two-year Corona break, thousands of music fans flocked to the Highfield Festival at Störmthaler See near Leipzig. In addition to three stages, there were many food trucks and a Ferris wheel on the site on the Magdeborn Peninsula. Raindrops on Saturday didn’t stop the predominantly young people from celebrating their favorite artists.

With around 35,000 visitors, the festival was again sold out, said Ruth Loesser, spokeswoman for the concert agency Semmel Concerts. “The anticipation has now turned into joy.” It can be clearly felt that after the corona restrictions, people are hungry and curious about music again. They would not have let the occasional rain spoil their mood.

40 artists from Sido to Deichkind

The program for the three-day festival included performances by around 40 artists from genres such as indie rock, hip hop and rock – including well-known music greats from Germany such as AnnenMayKantereit, Sido and Deichkind. Bad Religion and Limp Bizkit, among others, had canceled. The Broilers and the Donots will fill in for the US groups this weekend. In addition to the bands, there is also a poetry slam on a stage on the beach.

On Friday night, Bring Me The Horizon performed on one of the stages. Laura Schick and Tina Weber from Düsseldorf were particularly looking forward to the British band. They had driven more than six hours from North Rhine-Westphalia to experience open-air concerts again after a two-year break due to corona. “It’s unusually cool. At first it was a strange feeling to have so many people in one place again, to be honest. But that connects fully and that’s totally the great atmosphere, »said Tina.

“Full festival feeling” with rain ponchos and rubber boots

When it started to rain halfway through the festival on Saturday, many visitors took it easy. People with ponchos or rubber boots could be seen on the site, 20-year-old Tina converted a yellow garbage bag into a rain cover. “Full festival feeling,” as her friend Laura said. Other visitors at the campsite got in the mood for the performances with beer and music.

Sophie, Johanna and Paula from Hanover braved the rain with transparent ponchos and red heart-shaped glasses. The wet weather didn’t bother them much. “You make the best of it, people motivate you,” said Sophie. The friends had already arrived for camping on Friday. “We just wanted to spend some time together, with friends. The atmosphere here is just really great.” She would have missed parties in the past two years. One notices all the more now that people would like to celebrate more, said Sophie.

The police initially drew a positive conclusion on Sunday afternoon: “We rarely had to intervene and only a few crimes such as theft and bodily harm were known.” The festival should meanwhile last until Monday night. In addition, performances by Joris, Clueso and Casper were on the program as well as an after-show party.
