The state high court has given permission to open educational institutions in Karnataka. The Karnataka High Court has ruled that no student should wear any religious symbols inside educational institutions until a detailed order is issued.

Educational institutions in Karnataka have been given a holiday following the issue of students wearing saffron to protest the wearing of hijab by students in school colleges. The case, which was pending in the Karnataka High Court, was adjourned to a three-judge session. During the three-judge session, senior lawyers representing the petitioners argued that wearing the hijab was a matter of one’s religious right and that it was a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution.

At the same time, Karnataka state prosecutors have argued that religious identities should not be allowed in educational institutions in a discriminatory manner. The judges, who recorded all the arguments, said the academies could be opened but no student would be allowed to wear religious identities until the trial of the case was over. The judges adjourned the case to next Monday.
