The problem of wearing hijab in Karnataka first erupted in Udupi. The impact of this struggle spread throughout the state. The state government has ordered a holiday for schools and colleges in Karnataka since February 8 due to the ongoing tensions over the hijab issue. The case was taken up in the Karnataka High Court.

The Chief Justice’s session, which heard the case, imposed an interim ban on students coming to school wearing clothes that reflect religious identities until the final verdict in the case. In this context, colleges were opened in Karnataka today.

Some Islamic students wear hijab to a government college in Vijayapura, North Karnataka. At that time, the college administration refused to allow students wearing hijab into the classroom. Earlier, students wearing hijab were allowed into the same colleges, but the students were shocked when permission was denied citing a court order.
