Hilton and Hyatt will stop opening hotels in Russia

by time news

American hotel chains Hilton and Hyatt said they were suspending operations in Russia amid its military operation in Ukraine. This is stated in the statements of the two companies. Hilton said that it would use the proceeds from work in the country to help Ukrainians affected by the crisis, and, in cooperation with American Express, will provide refugees with free places in their hotels for 1 million nights.

“We have now made the decision to suspend our development activities and any new investment in Russia… We will continue to evaluate hotel operations in Russia while complying with applicable US government sanctions and directives as we hope to resolve this crisis. Realizing that many people in Russia also face challenges and uncertainty about their future, we are figuring out how best to support and care for our fellow hoteliers and current guests in the country,” Hyatt said in a statement.

“We have closed our corporate office in Moscow and will ensure the continued operation and payment of all affected team members,” Hilton said. They also noted that the Hilton Effect Foundation allocated $50,000 for further humanitarian assistance.
