A social media post shared by actor Siddharth has become the talk of the internet, saying that his parents were harassed at the Madurai airport and the security officials continued to speak in Hindi while speaking only in English.
Siddharth, who is currently starring in Indian 2 with Kamal Haasan, lashed out at the way the security officials behaved at the Madurai airport when he and his parents went to the airport for a flight. He said that during the security check, no matter how much he said, the officers spoke to him in Hindi instead of English and treated him harshly.
Apart from this, he alleged that they even asked him to take out the coins from his parents’ pockets and that the unemployed were showing their power.
“We were harassed for 20 minutes by the CRPF (officials) at Madurai airport. They even removed coins from my elderly parents’ bags. They spoke to us in Hindi several times even after we asked them to speak in English,” Siddharth said in a post on Tuesday through his Instagram story, which will last only 24 hours. “When they protested, they said this is what happens in India. The unemployed are showing their power,” he said.
Security at Madurai Airport is handled by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). However, in his Instagram post, Siddharth leveled allegations against the CRPF unit.
Noticed Siddharth’s old posts
In this case, Madurai Member of Parliament Su. Venkatesan said that he has requested to conduct a proper investigation in this matter. In his Twitter post in this regard, he said, “CISF soldiers spoke in Hindi and behaved harshly at Madurai airport
I have requested the Madurai airport authorities to conduct a proper inquiry into the allegation raised by screen artist Siddharth.”
Actor Siddharth’s post has garnered attention among social media users and sparked a debate over language usage. But this is not the first time that Siddharth’s record has been talked about like this.
Siddharth, who has been an actor in the film industry for nearly twenty years, is very active on social media. Siddharth is one of the few actors who go beyond the records related to the film industry and express their views on society and politics in public. Although his ideas have often received support with positive discussions, he has also received negative criticism and controversy from time to time.
Siddharth complained against the BJP
In particular, Siddharth has criticized many activities of the central government in the past. From the Central Vista project to the central government’s anti-covid measures, he has continued to criticize many things.
20,000 crore is being spent on unnecessary projects. Siddharth’s post about the Central Vista scheme, one of the central government’s dream projects where the funds can be used for vaccination and public health, drew reactions from various quarters. Siddharth has also criticized the central government’s anti-covid measures on his social media page.
Later, Siddharth said that he was being threatened by people from the BJP as a result. He said on his Twitter page that he and his family have been receiving death and violence threats after the BJP’s Tamil Nadu IT wing leaked his phone number online. After this, the Tamil Nadu Police came forward to provide him security. But he declined the defence, saying, “I humbly waive this offer, because during this pandemic these officers can use their time for some other good work.”
However, the Tamil Nadu police who offered to provide such protection also sent a summons to Siddharth later on.
When Prime Minister Modi visited Punjab earlier this year, a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur got the Prime Minister’s convoy stuck on a flyover. The case was seen as significant because of the lapse in security for the Prime Minister. At that time, Siddharth responded to a tweet posted by Saina Nehwal regarding the lapse in the Prime Minister’s security. The actor’s post drew protests across the country saying it was demeaning to women.
The matter went as far as Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju objecting to Siddharth. Based on complaints received at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office regarding this tweet, the police issued a summons to Siddharth for an explanation. Later Siddharth apologized for this.
Similarly, his comparison of young BJP leader Tejashwi Surya with terrorist Ajmal Kasab caused a huge controversy.
His tweets against the imposition of Hindi beyond politics have been widely noticed across India. During the formulation of the new education policy, there was some perception that it was in favor of Hindi. Due to this, the ideas against the imposition of Hindi again started sounding in the political field of Tamil Nadu. Siddharth did not fail to talk about this.
In his subsequent tweets in this regard, he said, “Brothers first stop linking many languages older and more important than Hindi as Saudwala! Secondly learn the names of our states and languages and try to pronounce the names correctly.
No one is anti-Hindi. The problem lies in the imposition of Hindi. There is no effort from Hindi speakers to learn beautiful regional languages. Why the foolish expectation that Hindi should be preferred over a neutral, efficient second language like English?
There is a big difference between a native Tamil speaker learning Hindi and being forced to study it and take an exam in it. I speak 5 languages and understand 10 languages. I don’t have to learn them, it’s just the way it should be. India is a mixture of many languages. Leave it as it is,” he posted. This attracted the attention of various parties at the Indian level.
Similarly, when the trailer of Thackeray, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was released, he criticized it for inciting hatred against South Indians. Similarly, when Bollywood actress Saira Wasim announced her retirement from the film industry citing religion, Siddharth’s comment that “I believe our art and profession is our life. We are fighting to keep religion away from it. Religion has no place here” received positive reactions from many quarters.
Siddharth, who continues to promote his political and social position through social media, has this time presented a personal problem that he faced.
