HIROSHIMA, Japan (AP) — A high school in Hiroshima Prefecture has withdrawn from the prestigious National High School Baseball Championship, commonly known as Summer Koshien, following a social media storm over alleged bullying.

A Hiroshima high school team is out of the National High School Baseball Championship due to a bullying scandal.
Why did the Koryo High School baseball team withdraw from the championship? Koryo High School pulled out after an outcry on social media concerning alleged violence within the team earlier this year.
Officials confirmed the withdrawal on Sunday. The popular tournament is held at the historic Koshien Stadium near Osaka.
“We have decided to pull out, and will swiftly conduct an overhaul of our education method,” said Masakazu Hori, the principal of the school.
The allegations of violence sparked a frenzy online. Many users on social media called for the team’s removal from the tournament.
School’s Response
In response to the public pressure, school officials announced the decision to withdraw. The principal stated the school would also undertake a thorough review of its educational practices.
