World of culture in mourning, The philosopher Gianni Vattimo died at the age of 87. For days he had been hospitalized in Rivoli hospital, in the Turin area. Born in Turin in 1936, Vattimo was a professor at the University of the Piedmontese capital: in 1964 he became a professor, first as professor of aesthetics, then in 1982 as professor of theoretical philosophy. Exponent of philosophical postmodernism, Vattimo linked his fame to the concept of “weak thinking” which gave him worldwide fame.
In parallel with his academic activity, Vattimo was also a politician: after his beginnings in the Radical Party he had two mandates as an MEP, from 1999 to 2004 and from 2009 to 2014 with the Pd and IdV. Openly homosexual, he has always claimed his Christian faith. In recent years he has held sway his relationship with Simone, his assistant and then partner.
