Since the disappearance of their grandson Émile, in the town of Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), on July 8, 2023, Anne and Philippe Vedovini have found themselves in the spotlight despite themselves. As they tell the website of Christian family, they had to face a lot of criticism from different media, just like the child’s parents.

If Anne is presented as an “almost transparent” woman, her husband is seen as an authoritarian man who decides everything. “I come across as a dominator who terrorizes everyone… All of this is false, but I don’t care,” assures Philippe.

However, the couple says they can count on the support of the inhabitants of the village of 135 souls. “The people around us are truly extraordinary,” reveals Philippe Vedovini. “It is very moving for us to continue to receive many letters. Just open a few of them to bring tears to your eyes. There is such a gap between the reaction of the French and that of the media,” explains his partner.

They keep the faith

The two grandparents, who have never hidden their religious affiliation, also reveal the weight of their Catholic faith in this ordeal. “The proof that God exists is the kindness shown to us every day,” confesses Émile’s grandfather.

Due to the gathering of journalists or simply curious people, the mayor of the town chose to close access to the town to anyone who does not have a primary or secondary residence there.
