(…) The accuser asked to dismiss the case,” say Ricky Martin’s lawyers after the hearing, reports the American media.
“It was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations with nothing to back them up. We are happy that justice has been done and our client can now move on with his life and career,” is it added in the same document. Ricky Martin was the subject of a restraining order for domestic violence had been adopted in Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean.
“Never have I had to endure something as painful as what I have been through in the last few weeks. I was the victim of a lie. Unfortunately, this attack came from a member of my family (. ..) A lie can hurt so much. It hurt me, my husband, my children, my parents, my family. (…) It’s time for me to heal. I’m very injured”, he adds in a video posted at the end of the hearing and relayed by the American site Billboard.
What was Ricky Martin accused of?
In this restraining order, it is, according to several media including El Vocero, indicated that the alleged victim and Ricky Martin had been dating “for seven months”, but that the break would have been complicated for the singer to accept: “He calls frequently, and (complainant) has seen him prowling around his accommodation at least three times. (complainant) fears for his safety.”
According to the Spanish media Marca, quoted by TMZ, the alleged victim is his nephew, son of his sister, 21 years old at the time of the events. The latter accuses the singer of physical and psychological violence during their relationship. “Ricky Martin has of course never been – and never would be – involved in a sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew,” said Martin Singer, Ricky Martin’s lawyer before the hearing.
And to add: “The idea is not only false, it is disgusting. We all hope that this man will get the help he so badly needs. But, above all, we look forward to this terrible case being dismissed as soon as possible. that a judge can examine the facts.” In this case, Ricky Martin risked up to 50 years in prison.
Ricky Martin has always denied the charges
On his Twitter account, Ricky Martin continues to deny the charges against him: “The restraining order against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond to them by respecting the legal process with the facts and dignity that characterizes me. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make a detailed statement at this time.”
Born in December 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin is the father of four children and married to Swedish painter Jwan Yosef since 2018. A hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 21, the singer has an appointment in front of the Puerto Rican justice.
