San Sebastián Klasika: Primoz Roglic Out, But Team Still Aiming High
A few days ago, the preliminary list of participants for the San Sebastián Klasika was announced, including Primoz Roglic. The Slovenian, recovering from a fracture in his lower back, appeared to be on track to return to competition there to test himself for the Vuelta a España.
However, his team recently announced the lineup for Klasika without Roglic, casting doubt on his participation in the final and most important part of the season. While it wouldn’t be unusual for a runner to skip pre-Vuelta competition, Roglic is known for his intense training and pre-race preparation.
The event itself could be seen as an ideal test for his injury, as a lumbar fracture is no small matter in cycling, given the high pressure placed on the area during pedaling. Recent sightings of Roglic training in the mountains suggest his recovery is progressing smoothly.
Red Bull BORA will travel to the Basque race on Saturday with Dani Martínez and Sergio Higuita at the helm, likely searching for a break in the Spanish round. Notably, Martínez was recently added to the event’s selection, which starts in Lisbon on August 17th.
