/ The President of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio Tapia, announced today, Monday, that the legend, Lionel Messi, will be the last player to wear the number 10 shirt in the ranks of the “Tango Dancers” team, according to media reports.

“When Messi retires from playing with the national team, we will not allow anyone else to wear the number 10 shirt,” Tapia said in press statements.

The former Barcelona star led the Argentine national team to win the World Cup, after exciting matches he played in the Qatar World Cup in the winter of last year.

This was the third time that the Albiceleste won the title after a long absence since 1986, when the late legend, Diego Maradona, led his country to win the Mexico World Cup.

Messi had spoken about his future with the national team in a recent interview with the famous broadcaster, Sebastian Vignolo, admitting that he was “not sure” whether he would be able to play in the World Cup finals that will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States in 2026.

“Today all I’m thinking about is getting to the Copa America (next summer) and being able to play there, and hopefully I can fight again and win it again, and then time will decide if I continue playing,” said the 36-year-old.

“The truth is that I will be at an age where no one would normally play in a World Cup, that’s why I said I don’t think I will be there,” he continued.
