/ The President of the Argentine Football Association, Claudio Tapia, announced today, Monday, that the legend, Lionel Messi, will be the last player to wear the number 10 shirt in the ranks of the “Tango Dancers” national team, according to media reports.
Tapia said in press statements: “When Messi retires from playing with the national team, we will not allow anyone else to wear the No. 10 shirt.”
The former Barcelona star led the Argentine national team to win the World Cup, after exciting matches he played in the Qatar World Cup in the winter of last year.
This was the third time that the Albiceleste team won the title after a long absence since 1986, when the late legend, Diego Maradona, led his country to win the World Cup in Mexico.
Messi had spoken about his future with the national team in a recent interview with the famous broadcaster, Sebastian Vignolo, admitting that he was “not sure” whether he would be able to play in the World Cup finals that will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 2026.
The 36-year-old player said: “Today, all I am thinking about is reaching the Copa America Championship (which will be held next summer) and being able to play in it, and I hope that I can struggle again and win its title again, and after that time will decide.” Whether I will continue playing.”
