Historic Low for SYRIZA as New Poll Reveals Shift in Voter Preferences

A historic low is recorded for SYRIZA in a new poll by Interview on behalf of Politic. Specifically, New Democracy remains first in voter preferences, gathering 22.2%. The most striking finding of the poll concerns SYRIZA, which appears to be emerging as the fifth party in voter preferences, with just 8.3%. This position marks a historic low for the main opposition party, which is now behind PASOK (11.7%), KKE (8.7%), and Greek Solution (8.8%).

Tracking the historical evolution of voting intention, it seems that New Democracy continues to lead voter preferences, but with a significant drop from 31.2% in December 2023 to 22.2% in August 2024. SYRIZA remains at low levels, with its intention falling to 8.3% from 13%, while PASOK remains stable at around 11%.

The Crisis of the Government

The government does not seem to be gaining the trust of citizens, as 79% of respondents rate its performance negatively, while only 19% express positive views. This widespread dissatisfaction is also reflected in the popularity of political leaders. Specifically, Kyriakos Mitsotakis maintains first place in popularity with 29.8% positive opinions, yet 68.3% of citizens rate him negatively.

Dimitris Koutsoubas and Zoi Konstantopoulou follow with 28.2% and 24.7% positive opinions respectively, although both also have high negative opinion rates (63.8% and 67.9%). The highest levels of dissatisfaction are recorded for Nikos Androulakis (81.6%), Stefanos Kasselakis (81.6%), Kyriakos Velopoulos (79%), and Dimitris Natsios (78.8%).

In response to the question of who is considered the most suitable for Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis leads with 35%, while Stefanos Kasselakis and Nikos Androulakis gather 11% and 6% respectively. However, it is striking that one in two (48%) of respondents do not consider any of the proposed candidates suitable for the premiership, which underscores the widespread skepticism towards the political leadership.

Harry Doukas leads for president of PASOK-KINAL

In the upcoming internal elections of PASOK-KINAL, Harry Doukas seems to prevail with 26.3%, while Nikos Androulakis gathers 22.7%. The Anna Diamantopoulou follows with a high percentage of 18.4% and Pavlos Geroulanos with 17.4%.

The Greek society is crumbling under economic problems

Regarding the biggest problems facing the country, citizens identify inflation as the primary issue, with a rate of 29.1%. Following this are energy prices (17.0%) and the level of salaries and incomes (16.4%), indicating heightened concern about the cost of living and the economic situation.

Only one in ten considers demographic issues (11.2%) and climate crisis and natural disasters (11.1%) as the largest problem in the country.

In their daily lives, citizens face serious problems, with bill payments being the biggest challenge (23.6%), while significant rates are also recorded for difficulties in accessing emergency medical care (19.1%) and food purchases (17.5%).
