Speaking at the opening of the 1st International Congress on the Economy of Care and Social Protection, held under the theme “Economy of Care and Social Protection: Pillar of Women’s Empowerment, Job Creation and Family Well-being”, Ms. Fustier stressed that at a time when Moroccan society is in demographic and epidemiological transition, the economy of care in Morocco is also changing.
One of the major issues of this congress is to reflect together on a model of complementarity and sustainability between public and private social protection services, and family and community solidarity, which is the foundation of Moroccan society, noted the UN official.
Therefore, she continued, the challenge is to enable individuals, families and communities to benefit from the necessary care in an equitable and economically sustainable manner, in line with social protection mechanisms.
For her part, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, Head of the Social Affairs Department, Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, noted that the care economy constitutes a group of economic activities targeting communities most in need of care, led by the elderly, people with disabilities and children.
This congress aims to examine ways to guarantee and strengthen social protection, to focus on the care economy as a sector for promoting employment and supporting equal opportunities for decent work, so as to strengthen all components of the family, she noted.
And to continue that the axes of the congress cover most of the aspects related to the economy of care and social protection, especially since the pioneering experiences of Arab and African countries as well as friendly countries constitute important models to follow.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this two-day international congress is organized by the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Arab League. It is an opportunity for reflection in order to mobilize collective intelligence to build an integrated system of the care economy.
