Geneva: The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday voted to condemn Russia’s occupation of Ukraine, end the Moscow war and withdraw its troops. A move aimed at diplomatically isolating Russia. At a rare emergency meeting convened by the UN Security Council, 141 of the 193 members of the Assembly supported the resolution.
The conference passed a resolution condemning the Ukrainian military’s fight against the devastating bombings and airstrikes that forced millions of people to flee the port of Kerson and condemned the “attack on Ukraine.” Prior to this, the Security Council last convened an emergency meeting of the General Assembly in 1982.

Meanwhile, 35 members, including China, abstained and five countries, including Russia, Syria and Belarus, voted against the resolution. Although General Assembly resolutions are not mandatory, they have political significance.
