“History will end when the crimes are investigated and the guilty brought to justice”
However, the Minister of the Republic of Lithuania believes that history will end only when all crimes are investigated and the guilty are judged.
“History is being written. Putin’s arrest warrant for deporting Ukrainian children sets new precedent. However, history will only end when all war crimes and aggressions are investigated and the guilty punished,” the Lithuanian minister wrote on his Twitter account.
History is being made. Putin’s arrest warrant for deporting Ukrainian children is setting new precedents. The story, however, will be complete only when all the war crimes, and the crime of agression, have been investigated and the guilty are convicted.

Putin’s arrest warrant
The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin on Friday, March 17. The same order was issued in the case of Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian children’s commissioner, who is reportedly involved in the kidnapping of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories.

“The President of Russia is responsible for a war crime, illegal deportation of residents (children) and illegal resettlement of residents (children) from the occupied territories of Ukraine to the territory of the Russian Federation,” reads the court’s justification.
Competence of the International Criminal Court – not to be confused with the International Court of Justice
The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, is the first permanent court to deal with war crimes, genocide, crimes against humanity and “aggression”.
It should not be confused with the International Court of Justice, the UN body before which states are brought before it. Only individuals, not states, can appear before the International Criminal Court. In this particular case, it will be Vladimir Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova.
