Morocco is indeed emerging as a “center of African geopolitics of the 21st century,” Mr. Mackay said in a statement to MAP on the occasion of the celebration by the Moroccan people of the 25th anniversary of the enthronement of His Majesty the King.
Thanks to the privileged relations that the Sovereign maintains with foreign heads of state, the Kingdom of Morocco today occupies a prominent place on the international scene, he stressed, noting that His Majesty the King has also carried out “a smooth transformation” of the Kingdom as evidenced by the world-class road, rail, maritime and air infrastructures that have emerged.
In this regard, he cited the “mega-port” of Tangier Med, which has become, on the geopolitical level, “one of the most important nerve centers of maritime transport.”
Mr. Mackay also praised the Sovereign’s clear-sighted vision to strengthen Morocco’s strategic positioning on the global maritime map, assuring that the success has been such that another mega-port is under construction in Dakhla.
He also stated that the autonomy plan for the Sahara has found a favorable echo and broad support among the most influential countries in the international system and the UN, who describe it as “credible, realistic and serious.”
Mr Mackay was keen to stress that the autonomy plan, which represents a peaceful resolution to this regional dispute that has lasted far too long, “eradicates any possibility of seeking a different solution based on intolerance, threat and conflict”.
