In this sense, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad, Bakary Yaou Sangaré, who participated in this meeting on Thursday, affirmed that this “royal initiative is a win-win approach and a fine example of South-South cooperation.”

“There is no better solidarity than this and we appreciate this unique initiative,” said the Nigerien minister, explaining that the major difficulty that the Sahel countries are experiencing is the problem of infrastructure and access to the sea.

In this regard, he specified that this “good initiative”, which aims to facilitate the access of these countries to the sea and to make available to them all Moroccan road and airport infrastructures, will allow the supply and access of products from the Sahel States to the international market.

Morocco is an important country for Niger and for the Alliance of Sahel States in general, stressed the Nigerien official, affirming that this initiative will also diversify the supply ports of the countries of the region.

Highlighting the fruitful cooperation between Morocco and Niger, Mr. Sangaré described the Kingdom as a strategic partner, particularly in the economic, banking, security and religious fields.

For his part, the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, considered that the royal initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean is an opportunity that has been favorably received by the Sahel countries.

This initiative is an opportunity to set up infrastructure and means of communication that allow landlocked countries in the Sahel to connect to global trade, Mr. Diop explained in a statement to MAP.

“There is technical work being done and we hope that these infrastructures which will be in place will benefit all the populations of the area and will strengthen trade between Morocco and our countries and will also allow our countries to be able to access Europe and other international markets,” continued the Malian official.

In a similar statement, Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara said the royal initiative will contribute to promoting prosperity in the Sahel region, noting that “without prosperity, there can be no stability or peace.”

On the other hand, Mr. Tangara welcomed the exemplary cooperation between Morocco and Gambia, expressing his gratitude to HM the King, on behalf of the Gambian President and people for the considerable support that Morocco provided to the success of the 15th OIC Summit held last May in Banjul.

The work of the 50th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) opened Thursday in Yaoundé, with the participation of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The agenda of this session, held under the theme “Development of intra-OIC transport and communication infrastructure: a major instrument in the fight against poverty and insecurity”, includes political, economic and social issues, as well as the challenges currently facing the Muslim world.
