Hamilton ∙ The four-acre ground of the Hamilton Malayalee Samajam has been prepared for the cricket competition. It is also the first professional cricket ground in the city. The renovated cricket ground of HMS, one of the leading organizations in North America, was inaugurated in the presence of locals and Malayalis from around. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown officiated. Samajam Cricket Kalam will be the venue for many tournaments including this week.
The ground was prepared with the help of 3.58 lakh dollars in the future fund project of the city of Hamilton. The playing field is arranged in a radius of sixty meters. There is a quality pitch and a practice pitch. There will also be facilities for sports like soccer and tug-of-war.
The opening ceremony was attended by Parliamentarians Dan Mays and Lisa Hefner, Provincial Parliamentarians Donna Skelly, Hamilton District Cricket League President Ranjit Chaudhary, Hamilton Cricket Club President Rupert Albert and event mega sponsor Realtor Manoj Karatha. The senior members of the Samaj were honored by wearing Ponnada. Samajam President Biju Devasi, Secretary Manu Nedumatham, Cherian Thomas, Soni Paulus and others spoke. Singer and RJ Vidya Shankar was the host.
The thattukada, which was held along with the ground inauguration, was also full to overflowing. The attraction of that shop was the dosa, masala dosa, pazampori and parippuvada prepared by the members of the society. The delicious dishes were the result of three days of hard work by the members of the Samaj. There was also a youth stall with favorite drinks. From movie posters to local election banners, they were up in the shops.
Insurance brokers Sujith Sudesan and Jenu Madathil (Ins Life) were the grand sponsors of Thattukada. The flash mob organized by the Samajam Youth Team was impressive. The Kalaveedan was organized by the Hamilton Malayalee Samajam Orchestra led by Saju James.
