Pellegrino Matarazzo wishes his ex-club VfB Stuttgart to remain in the Bundesliga, but does not want to give away any points in the guest appearance with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the last day of the game.
“I hope TSG wins and VfB stays up in the league. That’s not diplomatic, it’s the truth I sense. We’re competitors. I’m the TSG coach. We’re going there to score points,” said Matarazzo the pay TV broadcaster Sky before the spicy duel on Saturday.
The 45-year-old coached the Stuttgart team from January 2020 to October 2022. He has been in charge at Hoffenheim since February of this year. While the TSG as table 13. with 35 points already secured their place in the class, VfB in 15th place with 32 points still has to worry.
Matarazzo is therefore relaxed about his return to his old place of work. “I’m going there with a certain joy and positive tension. I’m happy to see a lot of people with whom you’ve worked intensively for three years,” he said. He expects a hot atmosphere in the stadium and a new experience for himself: “It will be a strange feeling to be in the other dressing room.” (dpa)
