Hofmann: “WM-Aus greatest sporting failure” | free press

National player Jonas Hofmann described the premature exit from the football World Cup in Qatar as the most negative highlight of his career so far.

“We had the dream of achieving the very big goal. It was the biggest sporting failure of my career,” said the Borussia Mönchengladbach offensive player to the t-online news portal.

It took him a while to process that. “I don’t eat it up and I don’t read everything. I think it’s better to think about it for myself and talk to my loved ones about it,” said the 30-year-old.

His greatest wish now is to take part in the 2024 European Championships in Germany. “I want to stay fit in order to make it into the squad. A home European Championship is something very big that only a few footballers experience. It’s a very special event for us players, but also for Germany,” said Hofmann. (dpa)
