Manchester United beat Luton Town 2-1, this Sunday (18), in a match valid for the 25th round of the Premier League. Playing at Kenilworth Road, in Luton, the Red Devils counted on two lightning goals from Rasmus Højlund to secure the three points. Carlton Morris scored for the home team.

With the result, Erik ten Hag’s team reached 44 points, in fifth place, five behind Aston Villa, the first team in the UEFA Champions League qualifying zone. Luton remains in 17th place with 20 points and continues to fight against relegation.

Manchester United have made a devastating start at Kenilworth Road. In the first minute of the game, the Red Devils opened the scoring with Rasmus Højlund. Casemiro cleared a ball in the defense field and left-back Bell poorly cleared the ball, which fell to the young Dane, who advanced with the ball and dribbled past the goalkeeper to score the first of the game.

After six minutes, Højlund appeared again to increase the score. Shaw took a corner from the left and the Luton defense cleared it. Garnacho took it first time, from outside the area and the ball deflected halfway off Højlund and ended up in the back of Kaminski’s goal. This was the Dane’s seventh goal in six straight games.

United’s pressure continued and the opportunities to score more goals were wasted, first with Rashford and then with Garnacho, whose shot was saved by the goalkeeper.

Luton tried to get into the game and were rewarded in the 13th minute. After playing on the left side, Chong had his shot blocked by the defense and the ball fell to Carlton Morris who headed the ball into the goal.

The goal excited the home team, who launched the attack, but failed a lot in finishing, not achieving a draw until the end of the first half.

The second stage was very balanced and with both teams having great chances to score. Luton dominated the first minutes, but continued to struggle in the final stages. Manchester responded in kind, but were stopped by Kaminski’s good saves.

In the 21st minute, Garnacho came face to face with the goalkeeper, but when it was time to dribble past the goalkeeper, Kaminski stretched out, deflecting the ball and taking away the angle of the Argentine’s shot, who missed a great opportunity to score the third.

With Luton struggling to get a draw, United abused counterattacks and again had the chance to kill the game, this time with Bruno Fernandes, who crossed the ball, but the ball went close to the right post.

The home team still had the chance to equalize in the last minute. After a corner kick from the left, Ross Barkley went up alone and the ball neatly hit the crossbar, saving the Red Devils, who came away with a 2-1 victory.

In the next round, United will host Fulham, on Saturday (24), at 12pm, while Luton will face Liverpool, away from home, on Wednesday (21), at 4:30pm.
