How did you react to the news of your captaincy?
«It was a huge surprise, already. I was not excpecting that at all. Fabien Galthié came to talk to me during a bodybuilding session to tell me: you are going to start this weekend and you will also be our captain. I was not excpecting that at all. This is happiness.»
Your last game in Blue, against Scotland, didn’t go very well…
«It’s a fact of career, it happens. We tend to remember bad things more. There have been more than a thousand times where it has gone well… There are hitches but the goal is to show all the experience that the group has acquired. All the players who are there have had a situation like that, under pressure. The only pressure we have is to play well together and provide a quality match.»
After two years without selection, how do we cling to this World Cup hope?
«It’s like my career in the France team (smile). With good and bad times, as in any career. The goal is to always stay at your individual level and hope that the opportunity arises. It happens or not, but the goal is to continue to have fun on the pitch. I had the chance to experience that in a club, which allowed me to do good things and, behind, the opportunities came back… With my history, I had hope. Might as well take full advantage of it!»
