Sharjah> The Sharjah Executive Council has announced a reduction in public sector working days to four days a week. In the announcement of the Golden Jubilee, the UAE announced that it would have government offices only four and a half days a week. The UAE had postponed Friday’s holiday to Sunday and made Friday a working day until noon. But Sharjah was given a full holiday on Friday as well.

The new decision will take effect on January 1, 2022. The new working hours are from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm. In effect, the working hours have been extended from one hour to one and a half hours. In other emirates, however, the four-and-a-half-day working day will continue.

The UAE Minister of Human Resources and Emirati said that the new working hours reform will help stimulate the labor market. Abdul Rahman Al Awar commented. He noted that the new system would restore the labor market to the global market and the main driver of the national economy, enabling private sector companies and institutions to pursue external transactions and thus protect the interests of investors and business owners.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Awar urged private companies and institutions to enable the benefits of the new system by amending the internal rules and regulations to suit their operations. Maintain maximum working hours as per employment contract and allow rest days and annual leave;

He stressed that business owners must also fulfill their legal obligations to employees by ensuring that employees are given adequate breaks to work and pray on Fridays.
