The government has ordered a holiday for all schools in Tamil Nadu next Saturday.
The coming Thursday, April 14, is the Tamil New Year and the following day is Good Friday, both public holidays. In this case, the holiday is announced on Saturday, April 16th. Since Sunday is a holiday, school students get four consecutive days off. Schools will be open as usual on April 18.
According to the DMK, the report confirms that the Tamil Nadu government is still observing the first day of Chithirai as the Tamil New Year, even though Thai Monday is considered the first day of the Tamil New Year. Similarly, in the state of Pondicherry, April 16 has been declared a holiday for all schools.
