Chemical dependency is a problem that can affect anyone’s life, and so it was with Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid, who for several years struggled with cocaine addiction, until he finally achieved freedom from drugs through his faith in God.

The actor gave an interview to People Magazine, where he remembered a little about his past, in the 1990s, when he had to start a rehabilitation process in order to get rid of cocaine addiction.

“Addiction forces people to fill a hole inside us. When you break addiction, you need something to fill that hole, something that really works, right?”, he said, stressing that his relationship with Christ is what filled him.

Despite being born into a Christian family, the actor said he had never developed a personal relationship with Jesus, something that only started after he entered rehab, when he had a vision of what could happen to his life if he did not seek help. .

“I remember going home and having a kind of white light experience where I was dead or in prison or losing everything I had, and I didn’t want that,” Dennis said.

Dennis, who is also a musician, said he started reading the Bible during his rehabilitation, and even composed a praise to God, in order to demonstrate that he was recovering well.

“That’s when I started to develop a personal relationship with Jesus. Although I grew up a Christian, I didn’t have one,” he said, explaining that no amount of momentary joy from drugs can replace true happiness in Christ.

“Really what we are looking for, the joy of life, which is our gift, is actually the relationship with Jesus that we can all have. This is the joy of being alive”, concludes the actor, according to information from Fox News.
