The end of the Hollywood actors’ and actresses’ strike is still far away. As Variety reports, talks between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have been suspended due to “too great differences.” At the moment the negotiation seems to be stuck on streaming revenues, a game which according to the AMPTP is worth around 800 million dollars a year: the actors’ union wants a share of the proceeds from both original and past content licensed to the platforms . For the producers’ association this is an unsustainable economic burden.

SAG-AFTRA is also asking for an 11% increase in minimum rates, a figure that takes inflation into account, but AMPTP would be oriented towards replicating the agreement that put an end to the screenwriters’ strike, granting actors the same bonus that is due to both the WGA and the directors of the Directors Guild of America, i.e. 5% with progressive increases of 4% and 3.5%.

In the official note, the AMPTP underlines “the too large gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA” and the stalemate of the talks which are not leading “in a productive direction”. SAG-AFTRA has been on strike for ninety days: in six it will surpass the record of 1980, when actors and actresses stopped for ninety-five days.
