Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, Home Affairs Adviser of the Interim Government has called upon the Awami League to form a new party with new faces.

He made this call in response to a question from journalists after a meeting with traditional religious leaders at the secretariat on Monday (August 12).

M Sakhawat Hossain said, ‘Please don’t push the country into anarchy, including the recently defunct party (Awami League). You have a party. We will help you from the Ministry of Home Affairs. You party with new faces, with new promises and hopefully, with the Through Political Party Act.

He said, ‘I am saying to the political parties, stop them (violence against minorities) in your areas. Seat wise if we take account… you know very well, I am not a new guy. You have been with me for the last five years. I will make your that Constituency…no election at all. I still hold influence in the Election Commission.

Earlier, while visiting an Ansar member who was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), the Home Affairs Adviser said in response to a question about the Awami League, “Let the people gather, and whatever you do, I request you, do not do anything that you (Awami League) ) life is endangered. The public of this country has not yet come to accept you. I rather think you should reorganize your party.

Awami League has contributed a lot in Bangladesh, said M Sakhawat Hossain, ‘We cannot deny it. Reorganize the party, like a political party, contest when the election comes, go to the polls when the people vote.’

He said, ‘You (Awami League) will hand over this country to someone else? So we fought the liberation war, 3 million people died, stand on those 3 million people and you will hand over the country to another person? The people of this country did not forget so quickly. Because, those leaders who were holding, those leaders are now running away. We cannot save the leader who is being caught. Many leaders have been saved by many people, we do not know this.’

There is no use in fighting, M Sakhawat Hossain said, ‘We don’t want some more people to die here. Already 500, maybe more have died on both sides. This is the situation of the police. This is the situation of Ansar. If we had provoked, you would not have survived. We have convinced the Army. Because, who will you kill? Who killed the police? Your child was killed by the police. A policeman said that, sir, how many bullets it takes, his son is dead. don’t do it Please do not be tempted. You should not spoil such a great team for personal gain. It (Awami League) is our pride. It has no right to spoil it.’
