MERANO. A gang of thieves, accused of committing house burglaries in Alto Adige and also in other Italian cities, was busted by the Carabinieri of Merano. In particular, the Carabinieri wrote, “the thieves, at the end of May, had committed some house burglaries in the municipalities of Caines, San Leonardo in Passiria and Val di Vizze”.
“At the conclusion of complex and detailed investigation activities that have allowed us to acquire irrefutable elements of guilt against the suspects – the military further summarize – the military of the Carabinieri Station of Tirolo, in collaboration with those of the Stations of San Leonardo in Passiria, Val di Vizze and Fiumicino Airport of Rome, have reported to the Judicial Authority at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bolzano two South Americans who committed the three thefts, aged 30 and 34 respectively”.
“The investigations carried out by the Carabinieri of Tirolo – continues the force – have allowed us to ascertain that it was the habit of the two criminals to periodically reach Fiumicino airport, where they rented cars with which they then moved throughout the national territory to commit burglaries in houses”.
From here, the Carabinieri set out to “identify and arrest the criminals in flagrante delicto, at the moment in which they were returning the vehicle rented at Fiumicino airport the previous week. The searches carried out on the vehicle and the criminals also allowed them to find and seize various stolen goods consisting of 5,000 euros in cash, various gold objects and a tablet, which was found to have been stolen from a house in Fabriano (Ancona) the day before the arrest”.
The two were then arrested and taken to the Civitavecchia prison, at the disposal of the judicial authority, which issued against the two “the personal coercive measure of precautionary custody in prison”. The Carabinieri commented “a perfectly successful police operation, which demonstrates for the umpteenth time the great operational and investigative capacity deployed by the departments and soldiers of the Carabinieri. The important operational and repressive results achieved by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Merano continue, who, thanks to an in-depth and effective investigative action, managed to dismantle this gang, bringing the criminals to justice”.
