Fixed Internet traffic in Russia grew by almost 43% to 18.4 billion GB in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from the Ministry of Digital Science. These are abnormal growth rates – for comparison: in the first quarter of 2020, it increased by only 16% year-on-year, and by 12% in the first months of 2019. At the same time, mobile Internet traffic grew faster then – due to an increase in the number of users of traffic-intensive applications (for example, video services) and an increase in the base of smartphone owners, market participants said earlier. But in the first quarter of this year, the growth rate of the mobile Internet turned out to be lower than that of the fixed one – it increased by 37% to about 6.7 billion GB, it follows from the materials of the Ministry of Digital Science.

The third in terms of the number of users of the Russian Internet provider – ER-Telecom Holding, in the first quarter of 2021, the traffic growth was 70% compared to the same period last year, his representative says. The growth of fixed traffic is also confirmed by a representative of Rostelecom.
