Cold sores not only look unsightly, but can also be very uncomfortable and painful. In addition, the annoying bubbles usually appear when things don’t look right: before an important meeting or a long-awaited date. But there are some natural home remedies that promise relief.

Lemon balm has a calming and antiviral effect. In the form of creams or oils (like this one on Amazon*), lemon balm can be a good alternative to virus-inhibiting medicines. It is not without reason that highly concentrated lemon balm extract has always been used to relieve the symptoms of cold sores. It can help relieve the redness and swelling of cold sores.

As soon as you feel the first tingling and tension on your lip, you should cool the area in question. The cold can stop the virus from multiplying. However, if the herpes has already broken out, this method is no longer effective.

Important: Never put the ice cream directly on your lip, but wrap it in a kitchen towel!

If the blisters have already burst and are oozing, zinc ointment can help. Zinc helps dry out the blisters and has an anti-inflammatory effect.

The curcumin contained in turmeric can inhibit the reproduction of herpes viruses. To do this, simply cut a turmeric root into thin slices and place them on the affected area.

Garlic is also considered a proven home remedy for cold sores because it has antiviral and disinfectant effects. Simply cut a clove of garlic and place it on the affected area for about 15 minutes several times a day.
