The meeting between Rennes and Nantes was marred by homophobic chants sung on Sunday evening by Rennes supporters. The match took place on Sunday at Roazhon Park during this derby counting for the 7th day of Ligue 1.
In the 21st minute of the match, while Rennes led 1-0 after a penalty from Benjamin Bourigeaud, ultras from the Roazhon Celtic Kop sang chants targeting the Nantais but also one of the Canaries players, Matthis Abline, noted a journalist of the AFP present in the stadium.
A banner stating “Abline, a return trip” was also brandished in the same stand, referring to the departure this summer from Stade Rennes of the 20-year-old player, loaned to Nantes for the season. In reaction, part of the stadium whistled chants aimed at the player.
PSG summoned Thursday for homophobic chants
This incident comes a week after the homophobic chants sung by Parisian supporters during the Paris SG match at the Parc des Princes against Marseille (4-0) which led to numerous reactions.
Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra regretted that the meeting was not interrupted following the chants. Summoned by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), the leaders of PSG will be heard on Thursday.
Sunday evening, during the women’s D1 clash between Paris SG and Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes, the Parisian Ultras displayed a banner for several minutes in the Auteuil stand “Paris against discrimination and recovery”.
