Two weeks after the homophobic chants heard in the stands of the Parc des Princes during the PSG-OM clash (4-0) in Ligue 1, the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, repeats her firmness in an interview given to West France this Friday. She insists by saying that we need “individual sanctions and judicial bans from stadiums against the people who are the leaders. In the law of May 19, 2023 relating to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we established, with the Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, the principle of judicial bans on automatic stadiums for the most serious behaviors, inciting discrimination or hatred. »

The Minister of Sports resumes. “I find it insulting for football to consider that these songs are part of folklore. If we do nothing, tomorrow our children will take them back. For many supporters, there is no homophobic intention, but we are witnessing a group phenomenon with chants repeated sometimes for a long time. Absolute firmness is required in the face of violence and sexist remarks. Our women must be protected and, here too, we can imagine judicial bans on stadiums in the event of seriously discriminatory comments or acts. »

Closure of the Auteuil du Parc stand for a closed match

During the PSG-OM match on September 24, Parisian supporters – mainly the ultras from the Auteuil stand – resumed homophobic chants for around ten minutes. For these facts, PSG was sanctioned this Thursday by the LFP disciplinary committee. This ordered the closure of the Auteuil stand for one closed match and one suspended match. The stand will be empty for the Strasbourg reception on October 21.

In a press release, the capital club regretted “an excessive and collective measure likely to undermine the work of dialogue and prevention undertaken (by PSG) with associative, institutional actors and supporters”. PSG will not appeal the decision concerning its stand. Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi and Layvin Kurzawa, guilty of repeating insulting chants after the victory against OM, were also punished with a suspended one-match suspension.

Note that homophobic chants were also heard last Sunday during the derby between Rennes and Nantes.
