Honda Motor Recalls Over 2.5 Million Vehicles in the U.S. Due to Fuel Pump Defect

by time news

Honda Motor’s American arm is issuing a large-scale vehicle recall due to a fuel pump defect that poses a risk of engine failure or stalling while driving. The recall affects more than 2.5 million vehicles in the U.S., including various Honda and Acura models from 2017 to 2020.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published documents indicating that the fuel pump impeller used in these vehicles was improperly molded, resulting in low-density impellers that can deform and interfere with the fuel pump body over time. This can lead to an inoperative fuel pump, potentially causing the car’s engine to not start or stall while driving, increasing the risk of crashes and injuries.

While Honda has not received any crash or injury reports related to this issue, the automaker has announced that it will replace fuel pumps for all affected vehicles at no cost. The company plans to carry out the replacement process in separate phases, with the first batch of owner notification letters scheduled to be sent out in February.

In addition, it has been reported that countermeasure replacement parts are not currently available in sufficient quantities for all the recalled vehicles, and Honda intends to notify vehicle owners in stages. Dealer notification was scheduled to commence earlier this week, according to NHTSA documents.

Drivers can check if their specific vehicle is included in the recall by using the NHTSA website and/or Honda and Acura’s recall lookup platforms. The models impacted by this recall include popular vehicles such as the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey, as well as various Acura models like the MDX, RDX, and TLX.

Furthermore, earlier this week, the NHTSA and Honda announced the recall of more than 106,000 2020-2022 CR-V hybrid vehicles due to a missing fuse on the power circuit of exterior 12-Volt battery cables. This issue can cause the battery cable to short circuit or overheat during a crash, posing a safety hazard.

Honda owners are encouraged to stay informed about these recalls and take appropriate action to ensure their vehicles are safe to drive.
