Yang Min-hyeok, Hwang Moon-ki, Choi Woo-jin, and Lee Han-beom were selected for the first time
Coach Hong Myung-bo, who took charge of the national soccer team for the first time in 10 years, has revealed the roster for the third round of the North and Central American World Cup qualifiers in September.
On the 26th, Coach Hong announced the list of 26 national team members who will play in the first and second matches of the 2026 FIFA North & Central America World Cup Asian 3rd qualifying round at the Football Association Building in Shinmun-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
This A-match marks the return of Coach Hong to the national team after 10 years since his resignation in July 2014.
Most of the overseas key players, including Son Heung-min (Tottenham), Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton), Hwang In-beom (Zvezda), and Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), were named, while four players, Yang Min-hyeok, Hwang Moon-ki (both Gangwon), Choi Woo-jin (Incheon), and Lee Han-beom (Midtjylland), were called up to the national team for the first time.
Striker Cho Kyu-seong (Midtjylland), who is currently recovering from the aftereffects of surgery, was not called up for the international match this time, following the one in June.
Oh Se-hoon was once again chosen as Jo Gyu-seong’s replacement member.
Korea will play its first home game against Palestine at 8 p.m. on September 5th at Seoul World Cup Stadium, and its second away game against Oman at 11 p.m. on the 10th at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Prior to this, the national team will be called up on September 2nd and begin its first warm-up.
Hong Myung-bo, who is challenging for the World Cup finals for the 11th consecutive time, will compete in Group B with Palestine, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, and Kuwait in the third qualifying round.
