Hongcheon-gun successfully concluded the 28th Hongcheon Sweet Corn Festival. The 28th Hongcheon Sweet Corn Festival, Hongcheon-gun’s representative festival hosted and organized by the Hongcheon Cultural Foundation, has come to a grand close.
The opening ceremony of the 28th Sweet Corn Festival was held at 9:00 a.m. in Hongcheon Indoor Gymnasium in preparation for rain. It was attended by Hongcheon County Mayor Shin Young-jae, Hongcheon Cultural Foundation Chairman Jeon Myeong-jun, heads of local organizations, and military personnel. It featured a variety of performances, the Corn King Awards Ceremony, and unique stage productions such as the corn cutting ceremony.
This year in particular, the opening ceremony performance was held under the theme, ‘When corn ripens in Hongcheon, many things bloom like grains of corn.’
It was a meaningful and touching gift that shared the happy memories of people who attended the Hongcheon Sweet Corn Festival for a long time.
On the first day of the opening, many visitors and residents filled the event venue, and the festival venue received a great response from visitors with a variety of experiential events that satisfied all five senses, such as not only selling corn, but also reasonably priced food booths and various experience booths.
The 2nd Hongcheon River Starlight National Song Festival, held this year as well as last year, attracted visitors’ attention with rich and substantial things to see, such as the preliminaries and the national dance competition.
In addition, there were events where visitors could actively participate, such as eating corn quickly, fishing for corn, and guessing the weight of corn, as well as a 10,000 won happiness event using Hongcheon-gun’s specialty, sweet pumpkin, to create a fun time where visitors could take home a handful of happiness and memories.
In particular, this year, the Agricultural Technology Center developed and introduced various foods using corn, and received a great response from visitors for the taste and reasonable prices of the food.
Meanwhile, the ‘Oxygi Oksuni Platform’, which delivered sweet corn purchased by visitors to the festival to their vehicles, was operated for three days, and shuttle buses for the transportation disadvantaged and visitors ran nine times a day around the city and the festival site.
On the second day, the 20th, despite the forecast of 1 to 3 mm of rain per hour, a steady stream of visitors came, proving the popularity of the Hongcheon Sweet Corn Festival, the best in the country.
We have made every effort to ensure that many visitors can enjoy the festival safely until the last day of the festival on the 21st.
The 28th Hongcheon Sweet Corn Festival attracted over 30,000 visitors over the three days until the 21st, and sales also increased significantly compared to the previous year, making farmers smile and raising the expectations of sellers for next year’s Sweet Corn Festival.
Hongcheon Cultural Foundation Chairman Jeon Myeong-jun said, “We have prepared so that you can taste high-quality glutinous corn grown in a clean environment during the summer vacation season and have a good time through various programs.” He added, “I hope that many visitors will visit Hongcheon during the Hongcheon River Starlight Music Beer Festival held in August.”
