Hongcheon-gun traditional liquor is gaining popularity at the Seoul International Liquor Expo. The ‘Seoul International Liquor & Wine Expo’ was first held in 1992 and is the oldest liquor expo in Korea. It is the largest liquor expo in Korea that attracts a large crowd every year from industry professionals and consumers looking for quality liquor.

At this exhibition, eight traditional liquor companies representing Hongcheon-gun participated and introduced a variety of attractive traditional liquors.

Sweet and low-alcohol ‘Geumssaragi Saeng Makgeolli’ (Ssal Brewery), which can be enjoyed without burden, and ‘Munsami Gongjat Makgeolli’ (Mamas Farm), which is made with Hongcheon pine nuts, attracted great interest from consumers.

Also, ’33ju’ (33ga) with added wild ginseng, ‘Nervnae Wine’ (Chateau Nardry), which won an award at the 2023 Korea Traditional Liquor Competition using grapes produced directly, and ‘Gilbut Appelwein’ (Gilbut Farm), an apple wine, have each captivated many with their deep flavor and aroma.

In addition, the highball-only liqueur ‘Hollyem’ (Duru) distilled from Hongcheon Omija, the craft traditional soju ‘Hongcheon Gangsoju’ (Bae Naechon) made with rice and wheat nuruk, and the ‘Kkachi Dolpaeju’ (Bambachi Farm) containing more than 40% of organic native pear juice were highly evaluated by domestic and foreign consumers based on their diverse flavors and characteristics.

These traditional liquors are made with the utmost care by Hongcheon-gun artisans, and their excellence is recognized domestically and internationally through the Seoul International Liquor Expo.

Hongcheon County expects that this Seoul International Liquor Expo will greatly contribute to the revitalization of the rural economy and regional development, and will also be of great help in the development of the traditional liquor industry and the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage.

Yoo Jin-soo, head of the Agricultural Policy Division, said, “It was a great opportunity to receive recognition for the excellence of Hongcheon-gun’s traditional liquor through the Seoul International Liquor Expo, and we will work hard to develop sales channels for the traditional liquor that our artisans have put their heart and soul into, not only nationwide but also overseas.”

Meanwhile, Hongcheon-gun held a public contest for companies participating in the expo in May and selected eight representative companies to participate in the expo held from July 4 to 6 through an evaluation of the traditional liquor production process and products of the applicants.
