Eight coffins, all with the flag of El Salvador draped over them, were placed in a row in one of the rooms of the former presidential house in San Jacinto, San Salvador Centro.

Among them, eight men who have been recognized as heroes of the country, who lost their lives in a fatal helicopter accident last Sunday in Pasaquina, La Unión. Among the victims was the director of the PNC, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas.

Officials from all levels came to the funeral chapel to express their condolences to the grieving relatives.

At night, the President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, and the First Lady, Gabriela de Bukele, arrived at San Jacinto to show solidarity with the families of the victims. Before, Bukele and other officials such as the Minister of Defense, René Francis Merino Monroy, and the Minister of Justice and Security, Gustavo Villatoro; stood guard of honor for a few minutes in that rectangle formed by the coffins.

In a few words to the mourners, the President highlighted their work in the area of ​​security, especially in the implementation of the Territorial Control Plan.

“These men were God’s tools to achieve the miracle of security in El Salvador and to make it one of the safest countries in the Western Hemisphere,” Bukele said.

At the end of his speech, the President presented the National Flag to the families of the “heroes” as a symbol of their sacrifice and the gratitude of the entire country.
