World First Aid Day was established in 2000, initiated by the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, to emphasize the importance of First Aid in emergency situations, as well as in everyday life, where timely and correct intervention can prevent disability or save a life. It takes place on the second Saturday of every September.
The importance of knowledge of first aid is evident when we consider that approximately 100 million emergency incidents occur annually in Europe. Furthermore, European citizens today are called to face so-called modern threats, such as technological accidents, the increase in traffic and workplace accidents, cardiac events, as well as accidents arising from the ever-growing number of elderly individuals.
