The man who was born on November 4, 1966, Bandar Betsy I, Bandar Huluan, Simalungun, North Sumatra, served as Commander of the XVIII/Kasuari Regional Military Command (Pangdam). General Bintang 2 officially accepted the duties and responsibilities as the top leader of the XVIII/Kasuari Military Command after undergoing a Joint Call for Unit Delivery at Makodam Field, Trikora, Manokwari, West Papua, Wednesday, 23 August 2023.

Before serving as Commander of the Cassowary Military Command, Ilyas Alamsyah Harahap was trusted as Pa Sahli Tk. III KSAD for Polkamnas. This 1988-B Military Academy (Akmil) graduate from the Infantry branch (Kostrad) has also served as Deputy Commander of the Army Territorial Center (Pusterad).
Ilyas was once the Commander of the Tinombala TNI Operational Command (Kolakops) or the deputy in charge of the 2016 Tinombala Operation to crush the terrorist group East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) led by Santoso in the Poso Coastal Mountains region, Central Sulawesi. Santoso died in a shootout with Operation Tinombala personnel in Poso on 18 July 2016.
Ilyas has held various strategic positions, including Danton Infantry Battalion 305/Tengkorak, Danyonif 111/Karma Bhakti, Dandim 0109/Aceh Singkil, Assistant for Kasdam I/Bukit Barisan, Assistant for Kaskostrad, Danrem 132/Tadulako, and Acting. Danrem 132/Tadulako. Later, he was also entrusted with serving as Deputy Head of Staff of the KSAD, Kasdam Jaya, Aspam KSAD, Kabais TNI, Special Staff of the KSAD, Lecturer at the Defense University, and Ir Kostrad.
