Team of Hope will meet Team India in the final of the Hanyang University Cup, the third major trophy of the Homeless World Cup 2024, the world football championship for homeless people in Seoul, South Korea. The outcome of this match will determine whether the Bulgarian team will finish its participation in the Social World Cup in 17th or 18th place. Today, “Team of Hope” defeated the Czech Republic in the quarter-final of the “Hanyang University Cup” with a score of 12:2, and in the semi-final they beat Argentina with 5:3.
The Bulgarian team entered the race for the 17th to 24th places at the Homeless World Cup 2024 after finishing fifth in Group A of the tournament. The first two places in the group were taken by Mexico and England, who tomorrow enter into a dispute for the world title. Egypt and South Africa placed third and fourth in Group A, which gave them the right to participate in the 9th to 16th seeding of the Homeless World Cup. Tomorrow, the Africans will play the final with Brazil for the second most important trophy of the world championship – the “Korean Citizenship Cup”. Egypt unfortunately lost by one goal to the team of Poland and tomorrow they will argue for the 13th place in the tournament.
Team India, who Team Hope will face in the final tomorrow, finished fifth in Group B with 12 points (4 wins and 4 losses) from eight matches. The Indians were followed by USA, Portugal , Kyrgyzstan and Poland. They reached the final with Bulgaria for the “Hanyang University Cup” after successively defeating France (7:2) and Hungary (8:2) in the direct elimination phase.
