jpnn.comJAKARTA – South Korean coach Shin Tae-yong delivered a message after his contract was not extended by PSSI as coach of the Indonesian national team.

“Shin prays that Indonesia will advance to the 2026 World Cup,” said Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN) Sumardji at a press conference at the Danareksa Tower, Jakarta, Monday.

Sumardji said that Shin was also grateful for PSSI’s trust in giving him five years to architect Indonesia.

“In principle, Coach Shin accepts the termination of employment relations between PSSI and Shin Tae-yong. Coach Shin is also grateful for the trust given to him for five years and his message is that he hopes the national team will qualify for the World Cup,” said Sumardji.

In his mission to the 2026 World Cup, Shin has brought Indonesia closer to the door to the biggest football party in the world.

He brought Indonesia to advance to the third round of qualifying for the first time and is now in third place in Group C standings with six points from six matches.

Before being dismissed by PSSI today, the 54 year old man signed a new contract which will expire in 2027 in mid-2024 after leading the Indonesian U-23 national team to become semifinalists in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

“Mr Sumardji met STY this morning, has received the correspondence, later of course there will be a further process regarding our relationship which has ended,” said PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.
